Crisis and Safety Protocol
Effective date: [effective date]
What A Man is not a crisis service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911, or call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US). This page describes what the app does when a conversation suggests someone may be at risk.
1. Every message is checked. A safety layer separate from Aras checks every message you send and every reply Aras writes, in text, voice and video, in English and Turkish. 2. Suicide, self-harm or a crisis. Aras does not reply. The app shows a fixed support message written by people (never generated by AI) with crisis lines for your country (US: 988). In a call a fixed sentence is spoken and the call ends with the same screen. No selling, offers or humor there, and no offer for 24 hours after any safety flag. 3. Violence or abuse. If you describe violence or abuse happening to you — being hurt, threatened, followed or tracked, or afraid for your safety — the same support screen opens with the relevant helplines. Control or pressure without physical danger (for example your phone checked, your money or friends controlled, being put down, or remarks at work): Aras replies and names it plainly, and a small fixed card below offers support lines with an "I'm okay" button. In a call, one fixed sentence points to the lines and the call goes on. The card is shown at most once per conversation or call; only that it was shown and which button you chose is counted, never what you wrote. If a threat or physical harm comes up, the support screen opens right away. 4. Harm to someone else. If a message might mean hurting someone and it isn't clear, the app asks one fixed, neutral question. Anything but a clear "no" opens the support screen. 5. Fear of harming your own child. Unwanted, frightening thoughts (for example after a birth) get one calm, fixed question and a support resource; unless you say you and your child are safe right now, the support screen opens. Immediate danger goes straight to the crisis screen. 6. Sexual content. Aras does not produce sexual content. The first time he sets a boundary; the second time you see a fixed warning; an explicit act or a third time ends the conversation, and live calls pause for 24 hours. 7. Minors. Adults only. If you say you are under 18, the account is locked. Content that sexualizes a minor is refused and the session ends; the account is suspended until a person reviews it, and legally required reports are made. 8. Records. Safety events are recorded (category, time, the text version shown) so the process can be reviewed. We count them yearly for the report California law requires. 9. Reports and appeals. Long-press any of Aras's messages → "Report this reply"; appeal any decision in Settings → Help → Appeal a decision. A person reviews both.
